A FILMIC SESSION IN THE HILLS DISTRICT
Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Angela and her two boys, Reign and Zion, in a session that was as heartwarming as it was fun. Angela, a dear friend and fellow photographer, has a deep bond with her boys that radiates love and warmth. This session, set against the backdrop of Sydney’s Hills District, was all about capturing that connection, using a mix of flash photography and the filmic vibes that define my style! Plus two little boys who love skate boarding and Formula 1 (noted on Zion’s jacket!).
When we first started, Reign and Zion were a little shy, hanging back and observing their surroundings with wide eyes. But as the session progressed, their shyness quickly melted away, revealing the cheeky, playful sides of these two wonderful boys. They giggled and whispered secrets to each other, their bond bloody adorable!. The way Angela looked at them, full of love and pride, was something I knew I had to capture—as a mum myself, those are the moments that absolutely fill my cup.
For this session, I wanted to experiment with flash photography to bring out the vibrant energy of the boys. The flash added a punchy, dynamic feel to the images, freezing those split-second moments of joy and cheekiness. Combined with the filmic tones from my These Golden Years presets, the photos took on a nostalgic yet modern vibe that perfectly matched the mood of the session. These presets, which are warm, fun, and full of life, enhanced the golden hues of the late afternoon light- when the sun eventually made its appearance! (It was freezing at first).
